Mazurek (Polish Easter Pastry)

Crust

2.5 cups of flour

1/4 cup of sugar

1 egg

2 sticks of butter (250 g)

Directions

Melt the butter

Mix all the ingredients together until they form a sticky dough

Spread some the dough in a 9 in (23 cm) round pan

Then, use the rest of the dough to make decorations, like flowers or a braid, for the circumference

Bake at 350 F (180 C) for 20 min

Set aside to cool

Filling

14 oz (396 g) can of sweetened condensed milk

Remove the sticker around it and place the closed can in a pot of water

Cook it for 2.5 hours

Make sure the can is constantly covered with by water

Let it cool for a few hours

Spread the filling on top of the crust and decorate it with nuts and dried fruit

It is best to leave it for the night in order for the filling to solidify

Thoughts 

Mazurek is a traditional Polish dessert for Easter. There are thousands of recipes for it. This one is a simple one, but it tastes fantastic. The flavor of the filling is best comparable to dulce de leche. It a sweet, sticky, caramel like substance.

I love making it, and I have a lot of fun decorating it differently each year. I’m excited for tomorrow to enjoy this fantastic pastry!
