Level of Difficulty: Easy
- 3/4 cup of sugar
- 8 oz (227 g) of cream cheese
- 5 eggs
- 14 oz (397 g) of sweetened condensed milk
- 12 oz (340 g) evaporated milk
Beat the cream cheese until it is smooth.
Add eggs one by one.
Add the condensed and evaporated milk and mix everything together until smooth.
Pour the mixture into a heat resistant container of your choice.
Place that container into a pan. Pour boiling water into the pan (about 1 in of water).
Bake at 350 F (180 C) for 50-60 min. The mixture will jiggle when ready. Let it cool.
In a suce pan, caramelize the sugar.
Take the flan out of it’s container once it has cooled and pour the caramelized sugar on top.
Flan is a custard or pudding type of dessert. It is very light, soft, and jiggly. The caramel topping is the perfect sweet addition to the pastry.
Flan varies between cultures. It’s origins come from Southern Europe, but it has come into many different cultures around the world and each culture brings it’s own twist to it. Flan is popular in multiple Latin American and Asian countries. Each country adds it’s own special touch to it making this dessert very diverse. One flan is not like the other.
The recipe I tried is only one of many different options. I really liked it. It wasn’t too sweet. The texture was light and soft, just as it should be. It was quick an easy to make. My family really enjoyed it and is already asking for more 🙂
